WARNING: This doesn't have to do with cars.
So, I'm done with my HTC M8. The camera sucks, mine lags, and calls people on it's own (usually people I don't want to talk to or people I haven't talked to in ages).
I know I should probably just wait for the Galaxy S6, but I've decided to jump ship and get an iPhone. It makes life easier with group chats and whatnot.
Anyway, I go to my local AT&T store in North Haven, CT. I should have went to the Apple Store, but I don't know if they can transfer contacts from non-iPhones. I knew what I wanted, (white + gold iPhone 6 64GB) - they didn't have it. So I paid for it, and ordered it rush delivery to the AT&T Store - not my house.
It didn't come within the time frame, so I called AT&T asking to cancel the order so I can just go the Apple Store or another AT&T store to pick up one that's in stock.
Despite it being shipped to the AT&T Store, me canceling the order would cost me $35 in restocking fees , despite me not even getting the phone that's getting shipped to the store and the phone being 4 days late for "Rush" Delivery...
The AT&T rep on the phone said to go pickup the phone once you see it's been delivered to the store on the AT&T Tracking Website.
It said it was delivered, so I went to the store to pick it up.
I get there, they said they can't find it, and that I need to wait another 48 Hours for it to register into the system, before I can pick it up.
I hate AT&T.
Have a Frozen Bronze Metallic 6-Series Gran Coupe for listening to me rant.

Your problem is North Haven.

Lol. It was pretty much that or Hamden. I'll avoid Hamden at all costs - I should have just went to Cheshire or Meriden.

Long story short - having dealt with all the carriers in excruciating detail over the past months trying to switch plans I can say without complaint that they ALL suck. Like REALLY suck. Verizon is my personal favorite to hate (Verizon customer) but AT&T was terrible, T-mobile was okay but sneaky, Sprint was LAZY as a retired lama. They all suck.

Aw man you could've rooted the HTC and installed a custom ROM on it...

I was an AT&T customer since 2007, and was a Cingular customer since 2006 (AT&T bought Cingular in 2007). In October of last year, I ported mine and my wife's numbers to Verizon and haven't looked back. I was a Retail Sales Consultant (i.e. Person that works in the store) for AT&T for a year and the amount of bullshit that went on there was hilarious and frustrating at the same time. They did so many dishonest and awful things to their customers and couldn't care less because it increased their bottom line.
Verizon has its own big company evilness, I'm sure, but I haven't noticed it yet and I don't care since my bill is the same and my service is better with no random outages. AT&T has the market monopolized here and I can't see why, because they suck. Peoples phones are always losing service and not connecting for no reason. We have days long outages at least once a year around here with AT&T. And zero outages with Verizon.

Go to the store's manager and tell him about your experience. Hint that you are tired of AT&T and may even be looking at leaving the career. Ask them to refund the $35 to your AT&T account.
They can and will do that.
Had similar experience with AT&T (Assholes, Tits & Twats). Asked to buy the new (at the time) HTC One X Plus and told them I will make the purchase as an unlocked phone. They said they didnt have one in the store, but if I paid the phone's unlocked price for one they had in the store, then AT&T service hotline will unlock it.
That didnt happen. The hotline said they won't unlock that phone till 5 more months because they have it "exclusively", even though I was leaving the country.
Had to return the phone. Manager offered refund to my AT&T account, but I bought the phone unlocked because I didnt want to be their contract bitch. So no refund for me.
Assholes.

North Haven's motto should be "at least we're not Ansonia"

Yep, when companies get that big servicing individual customers is just in the noise. They do not care about your problems. It's just how it is.

Should've just gone to the Apple Store in New Haven.

Pro tip #1: There is no difference at any of the other carriers, all things considered. They all suck.
Pro tip #2: Do everything online. Do not deal with a real person, for any reason.
Pro tip #3: Lower your expectations. You might be surprised in the one off chance you have an experience that doesn't suck.
Don't like it? Go without your phone.

Sadly, I'm in Hamden. That is, until June when I'll be moving to Colorado.

I've found that with Android devices, sometimes a factory reset cures all ills. I've had to do that on both my gf's Nexus 7 2012, and my LG G2. In both cases they were getting laggy and glitchy, and the factory reset got them back to working fine.
But hey, now you're getting an iPhone. Maybe.
(You could always call them again, bitch them out for trying to charge you fees when they were the ones who fucked up, and demand to speak with a supervisor who can waive the fee.)

I've pretty much come to the conclusion I want an iPhone based off of how annoying it is to be in group chats with iPhone people, which is pretty much 90% of the people I know.
The last iPhone I had was a 4 back in 2011. It served me well, along with my Macbook which hasn't had a problem in 5 years (knock on wood).
At this point, I'm just gonna wait for it and speak to the supervisor during the purchase. Maybe they can do something nice, like a credit or something...

If they give you a black and blue one I will laugh my ass off.

It's funny, issues with iMessage by non-Apple users are totally intentional by Apple. The people who have the most issues with group texts are the ones who had an iPhone at one point but don't any more.
Apple took forever to issue a fix for folks who went and bought a non-Apple phone. They were betting that enough people in your position would say "screw it, I want to iMessage with my iFriends," and go back to an iPhone.
Apply now has a fix , but they don't really go out of their way to publicize it. Try doing that and you may find your group messaging experience improves greatly.
(Personally I'm neither an Android nor Apple fanboy. I like the stability of iOS devices but have been using Android phones for almost 4 years now. I still have an old iPad 2 and bought a MBP last summer.)

I could give you 12 years of complaints about Verizon. Whenever we call them they are trying to sell us a new plan, they promise it will be cheaper. When I ask them about the numbers it is always more expensive. I just want my phone fixed, not a sales rep.

I had the same issues with AT&T. What it all boils down to is they all suck!

It's not just AT&T. And not just 'Murica.
In Brazil we have Vivo, Claro, Tim (Italian, yes), and Oi.
They all suck equally.
Our version of FCC had to turn into LAW that you should be able to cancel a phone line subscription ON A SINGLE ACCESS or conversation, or you could SUE, because they would screw you over, hang up the call and not cancel anything.

Have you thought about T-Mobile? They'll reimburse you for your ETF's and any balance remaining on a phone purchase. I did a network test drive with them for a week last year, and I was blown away. I immediately switched and pay $80/mo for unlimited LTE data, texts, MMS, and calls.

T-Mobile does not work in my house or at school.
My AT&T Buyout is currently $340, but two people on my plan just upgraded through the AT&T Next program, where you pay off the new phone at full price with 0% Financing. They still currently owe like $650 for their iPhones!

Wi-Fi calling is enabled for all phones, and it works pretty well. They will pay up to $350 for ETF's and up to $650 on a phone buyout, too. I think they just announced the phone buyout today.

It's worth a shot. My only issue is that I switched my family from Comcast to Verizon Fios a few months back. It was well worth it, but my parents think it was more trouble than it's worth - there were some hiccups along the way.
